Creating and Maintaining Effective Boards

May 2, 2023 at 10:00 am - 11:15 am

An effective board of directors is essential to the success of organizations, providing critical thought partnership and enduring access to diverse skill sets, networks, and funding. Despite the impact potential of an outstanding board, not all organizations employ key best practices to ensure that their board, and therefore their organization, is set up for long-term success.

During this session, we will explore best practices of creating and maintaining an effective nonprofit board that will endure challenges such as staff and lay leadership transitions and a potential economic downturn. We will discuss ideal board make-up, roles and responsibilities, strategies for board member accountability, and different types of boards based on organizational size. You will leave this session with concrete action items so that you can build a board of directors that serves and catalyzes your organization’s work.
